Fixing Foggy Windows or Dual-Pane Moisture Removal
The Problem: After a window leaves the manufacturing plant the window has already started to fail. The manufacturers know this so they put a desiccant material in the frame. This material is designed to absorb the moisture that penetrates the seal causing what are called "foggy windows".
There are basically two causes of seal failure resulting in "foggy windows". The first cause is continued soaking of water that is trapped under the glass unit, which breaks down the sealant between the glass. The second cause, which seems to be the most common cause of the failure is Solar Pumping. Solar Pumping naturally occurs during the change from night to day. Sunlight during the day heats the inner airspace of the IG unit (insulating glass) causing the inner space to pressurize which forces out small amounts of the pressurized air through the semi permeable seal. When the temperature drops it causes a low pressure area in the IG unit which draws a small amount of air back in to the unit. The air being drawn back into the IG unit naturally hold moisture and it is this moisture that will get absorbed by the desiccant material that was installed back at the factory. After years and years of Solar Pumping the desiccant material becomes fully saturated (foggy windows) and is no longer able to do its job and absorb the moisture being drawn into the IG unit.
The Moisture Control Process: Frame N Panes has spent the last few years perfecting the moisture removal process. Traditionally with other companies, it can take up to 4 months for a window to clear up after it was restored. Our new technology has significantly decreased the healing time from between 8 to 12 weeks. Where there is not a lot of moisture present in the window, that time can be even shorter.
Our Preventative Maintenance Program: We offer a preventative maintenance program. Chances are if you have one failed window in your home, you have several foggy windows. We can perform a moisture test on the window to see if the seal has failed, even if there is no visible signs of moisture. We can then vent your windows and solve the problem before it gets any worse.
Does Restoring Work For Every Window? No, not every window is a good candidate for the restoration process. If we are unable to restore your window we will replace the glass for you or recommend a reputable glass shop in your area to provide this service for you.
If you are not sure your window, glass or plastic problems can be restored, don't hesitate to call a franchisee in your area for a free no obligation quote.
